Having a disease is a very disturbing condition where a person could not really keep peace with himself. Knowing that there is something wrong with yourself can keep you on the edge all the time. This could be aggravated with the thought of helplessness when your condition is deemed to be incurable.
One of the worst conditions to be in is problems or diseases with the brain or mind. Many people have hade mind conditions wherein they couldn’t help their actions. Some of them are hallucination, hearing voices and etcetera.
There is also another case of these mental conditions, wherein your brain is being damaged and you are so obsessed with a certain thing or person. You are doing things that are out of your control and there are thoughts that are unwanted but keep on coming back with full intensity, this is called Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) have different symptoms. These symptoms can be distinguished either by obsession or compulsion. Combining these two illnesses will give you an Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
Obsession is defined as:
• Thoughts, desire and images that a person experiences and keeps on coming back to disturb or distract and will give the feeling of nervousness, fear and suffering.
• The desire, thoughts, and images that keeps on coming back are the problems and worries of reality.
• An individual attempts to disregard or hold back the thoughts, desire and images or they try to do something in order for them to neutralize what they are feeling.
• Sometimes the individual will realize that the thoughts, desire and images are all in the imagination. An illusion that was only made by his own mind.
The very common natures of obsessions are:
• A person being paranoid about something that is wrong with a certain object or if it has dirt or bacteria on it.
• Worrying too much about simple things like, appliances that are being left unswitched or things that may cause harm to other people.
• Too much fear about having done something wrong or behaving improperly.
• Obsession in terms of the arrangement, order, classification or proportion of an object.
Compulsion is defined as:
• This is the repetition of certain behavior or mental acts for a period of time. The person feels that he is obliged to do that certain act every time he thinks he needs to.
• Such mental acts and behavior has a goal to prevent you from being fearful and events that are dreadful. However these behaviors are out of reality and it cannot neutralize the situation.
Common natures of compulsion:
• Compulsion is quite related to the other type of obsession.
• People with the disorder sometimes feel something will happen to them if they do not do or practice their obsession.
• Compulsion is a very time consuming practice or behavior.
• This can also be embarrassing to those people who are affected with there actions.
• Compulsion can also be considered as a psychological effect.
If you feel like you are having OCD symptoms you should go and get help from professional doctors. Some people are also referred to a psychiatrist for those who are having mental health problem and a psychotherapist as well for further help.
You should not take this disorder for granted. This is a serious ailment and can be life threatening. You can also be help yourself by exercising and getting help from a support group.
