Some Lessons to Learn Concerning Goose Down Comforters

from:

Dreaming of nights in luxury? Have it over a goose down comforter.

Goose down comforters are known for their coziness and property to induce a good night sleep. Not that they have magical powers but because they are by nature, made from comfortable materials.

They were only once made to cater the wealthiest families. But these days, we have seen their availability for all individuals who can afford their relatively "cheaper" price (when compared to prices back then).

While there are synthetic materials that may provide the same comfort, lightweight property and warmth, nothing can equal the benefits that may be had from goose down materials, except maybe the Eiderdown which is a very rare stuff.

Eiderdown is gathered from Eider ducks of Iceland. They come with surprising tag prices and manufacturers have good reasons for that! Eider ducks, though they live in very cold regions, can only produce around 20 kg of down for every year. (Imagine how precious that can be!)

Price can increase more due to elaborate processes by which the collected downs must undergo. These usually are composed of 19 procedures, which can only be performed in huge plants with special equipments designed only for Eiderdown treatment.

Although goose down may only rank second below Eiderdown, there is still no competition between the two. There won't be any! For Eiderdown comes in a very limited supply while goose down has been cultured for years so as to yield larger reserve.

Any one who has a good down comforter knows what it means to sleep peacefully at night. This probably is one great reason why we, Americans are so much obsessed with the material. Not only would they be able to provide you with the comfort you need, they can also provide superior warmth during nights that you will need them most.

Although goose down comforters appeal similar at the first glance, we can still suggest many differences that will characterize each type. The differences basically lie in the raw material used in creating the goose down comforter.

Siberian goose down is among the most adored raw material there is, excepting Eiderdown. It is made from the down of matured Siberian geese. The material is exceptionally ideal for comforters since they possess luxury that may only be had from geese that lived in frigidly cold regions. Therefore, to adapt to the environment, the geese have to develop thicker downs to provide covering during winter. The feathers then are removed.

While feathers cannot be separated totally from the down, there are still levels by which the down can be considered to be more superior to the other given that both came from a similar source. And that again is another factor- the mixture.

Thus, it is important to look for "pure" goose down comforter for a quality that will surpass any comforter made from another raw material. Products on the lower spectrum usually use other materials, organic and synthetic, as fillers. In such cases, only 70% of the comforter is made of goose down. There is no way to check on this except only by reading the label that comes with every goose down comforters.

So, if you are to buy goose down comforters, assure to it that you are buying the real thing. Although differences are not obvious, it would still be a plus to know that you are getting something that you paid for.
